Recognizing the need for a hearing test in Toronto

It’s essential to consider a hearing test, regardless of your age. Hearing loss often develops gradually, making it easy to miss. However, there are specific signs that suggest it might be time for a hearing evaluation.

Why a Hearing Test is Essential

Did you know that good hearing is crucial for effective communication and overall quality of life?

Whether it’s enjoying a conversation, listening to music, or hearing the sounds of nature, optimal hearing enriches every experience.

Hearing loss can be a gradual process, frequently affecting clarity before volume. It often goes unnoticed until it starts affecting our daily lives.

Indications That You May Require a Hearing Test

  • Struggling to hear conversations or TV in background noise.
  • Difficulty with phone calls, even in quiet surroundings.
  • Frequently asking others to repeat themselves or struggling with speech clarity.
  • Challenges participating in group discussions.
  • Experiencing stress or fatigue due to heightened concentration while listening.
  • Family members commenting on high TV volume or your speaking volume.
  • Loved ones subtly indicating that you may be experiencing hearing difficulties.

What to Expect During Your Hearing Test in Toronto at Owl Hearing Clinic

Our complimentary hearing test in Toronto provides valuable insights into your hearing abilities and evaluates your ear health. Our audiologist will:

  1. Examine the overall health of your ears.
  2. Perform a comprehensive hearing evaluation.
  3. Go over results and recommended next steps.

Assessing Ear Health

Following initial inquiries about your medical history and symptoms, our audiologists will utilize a small camera to inspect your ear canals and eardrums. This examination ensures that sound can travel unobstructed through your middle and inner ears. In some cases, you may even have the opportunity to view these images.  Next, a small earbud will be placed against your ear canal to measure the mobility of your ear drum and the middle ear.

Hearing Test Process

Our audiologist will assess your hearing by playing sounds with varying pitches through headphones. You’ll be prompted to signal each time you hear a sound. Additionally, a special headband will gauge your ability to perceive sounds through vibrations. Both tests aim to pinpoint the quietest sounds you can detect.  We will also assess your ability to understand speechwords both in quiet and background noise.

Expert Guidance

Following the tests, our audiologist will review the results with you and provide insights into the next steps based on their findings. All details from the appointment will be documented to monitor any changes over time and a full medical report is available to you and your family doctor upon request.

At Owl Hearing Clinic, our hearing tests are completely complimentary, and there’s no obligation to purchase a hearing aid.

Considering Hearing Aids? We can help

Should the test results indicate that hearing aids would benefit you, our audiologist will present customized options. Hearing aids will be placed in your ears so you may experience what amplification sounds like and to ensure we have the right prescription for you.  If you decide to pursue hearing aids, you mayreceive your hearing aids on the same day as your test. They will be programmed to meet your specific needs, and you’ll receive thorough instructions on their usage before leaving the clinic. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled after two weeks to ensure everything is working well, with adjustments made if necessary.
